Dietitian
What is an APD?
An Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) is the gold standard in Australia who undertake a minimum 4 year university degree. Dietitians understand how your body works and how food and drinks help nourish both healthy individuals and those with medical conditions that are affected by or treated with nutrition (DAA). They can provide personalised dietary advice to assist in managing a wide range of health conditions, as well as weight loss and improving general health and wellbeing.
What to expect when you see an ADP
During your initial appointment with your Dietitian they will assess your dietary needs via the nutrition care process. This includes clarifying your reason for attendance and together establishing your personal health goals, they will review your basic general medical history, weight history and any symptoms relevant to diet and nutrition. They will also ask you about your diet and nutrition history (foods you eat day to day) and from this they will formulate an assessment and intervention plan i.e. practical advice to assist you meeting your goals. This usually takes up to 1 hour and follow up visits approximately 30 minutes. Follow up after your initial appointment includes an email and on occasion phone calls for progress checks and motivation.
Our Dietitian has a wide range of experience across the health care setting and she believes in tailored advice specific to your needs. A one size fits all approach does not work when it comes to nutrition.
Exercise Physiologist
What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs)
AEPs are university qualified allied health professionals that specialise in clinical exercise prescription and the delivery of exercise and lifestyle modification programs for people who are at risk of, or living with chronic disease, injuries or disabilities. AEPs work with you to establish goals to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions.
AEPs are knowledgeable about the effects that exercise has on the musculoskeletal system, as well as on the cardiovascular and endocrine systems. They can prescribe exercises for either fitness or rehabilitation. Recommended services may include Pilates or hydrotherapy as well as home or gym-based exercise routines.
They can also advise on behavioural modification programs. Exercise physiologists can treat a wide range of medical conditions including but not limited obesity, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, depression, asthma and cardiovascular diseases, pain reduction as well as many other conditions.
What to expect when you see an AEP
An AEP will perform an Initial assessment with you to determine your health status, goals and physical activity history. They will then explain how exercise therapy will help to treat or improve your condition and improve your quality of life. The exercise physiologist will continue to discuss your exercise and health goals and provide you strategies to achieve these goals. Throughout this process the exercise physiologist will continue to work with you to develop tailored exercise programs, whether that be home or gym based, individual or group sessions to suit your needs. An initial assessment takes 45 minutes with follow ups visits usually 30 minutes. Your AEP will generally call you the following week to check in and see how your program is going.
Our AEP does not believe in a one size fits all and knows each individual will require personalised care. She really enjoys treating a wide range of conditions and helping every patient achieve their goals.
